The Roanoke Island Inn consistently receives excellent reviews, praised for its charming atmosphere, convenient location in downtown Manteo, and exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. Guests frequently highlight the property’s beautiful gardens, comfortable rooms, and overall delightful experience, creating a welcoming and memorable stay.
My husband and I grew up in Manteo. As longtime locals we have not stayed at the Inn, however, our family reached out to Lee last minute to ask about using the Roanoke Island Inn as the backdrop for some professional family photos. He was prompt in getting back with us and very kind. Despite having a full house, he gladly allowed us to photograph on his property. Our family was welcomed by Lee and encouraged us into the refreshment part of the Inn. We were even free to use the gardens in the back! Their grounds are SO pretty!!! Roanoke Island Inn encompasses the ultimate cottage scenery and we cannot wait to cherish our family photos. Lee, we thank you again for accommodating us in such a warm and friendly manner and in such short notice! We are truly grateful! We would encourage anyone to stay here not only is it stunning with great customer service, but it’s the epitome of the charm that makes downtown Manteo special and memorable. Thank you, Lee! Warm wishes, The Hall Family
My wife and I love this place, so much that we've been there three times so far over the years. We just got back from a four-night stay and again couldn't have been happier. Great location, great rooms, great breakfast & snacks, great grounds, and great hospitality (thanks, Lee!). Keep up the great work, guys!
Extremely charming property. Immaculate vibes. Proprietor is very kind and accommodating. Slightly more expensive than a typical hotel but completely justified for the service/atmosphere.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn. The property and the rooms are beautiful. They go above and beyond to make your stay special. Complimentary waters, drinks and snacks as well as a great continental breakfast. It is located in a perfect location and just a moments walk to the downtown. Lee and Theresa were wonderful and so welcoming and helpful. We would definitely stay there again. We can’t say enough nice things about the Inn.
Absolutely perfect. The host was amazing. He was so attentive in making sure that we had a wonderful experience. I just can't even tell you how much that made a difference. This place is a mixture of a historical climate with absolutely 100% modern-day pampering. We spoke with the owner who was so down to earth I am privileged to support someone who cares so much for others. If you want a view with convenience, this is the place to go. We felt like we were in a Oasis in a far-off land overlooking the most beautiful scenery with stars at night and sunrise in the morning. Thank you so much.
I love this Inn! My brother got married there in 2021, my whole wedding party booked out the Inn in 2022, and I did a Mommy Daughter weekend with my little girl this year. The rooms are very clean, the breezeway was a wonderful spot to sit and have dinner with my toddler, the guest pantry was good for late night snacks, and we took pictures in the garden. My daughter and I also had lunch in their little gazebo garden spot, then I spent some time reading while she played with the garden and koi pond. I love this place so much! Can’t wait to go back. They have all the little touches that make it feel like home.
I had such a wonderful stay at Roanoke Island Inn. Honestly, one of the most peaceful and charming place I’ve visited. The location is amazing, right in downtown Manteo and just a short walk to everything: shops, restaurants, and the waterfront. My room was super cozy and clean, with a beautiful view of the gardens and koi pond.I loved the breezeway it was perfect for reading or just soaking in the ambiance with a lovely view of the water. The whole property has such a calm, relaxing vibe you really feel like you’ve escaped. Everyone on staff was so kind and welcoming. You can tell they really care about the place and the people staying there. The 24/7 guest pantry was such a nice touch too. Staying in October; downtown Manteo does a Halloween Island. The inn embraces the community spirit, the front yard is decked out in halloween decor. It gives the nostalgia of a small town halloween. If you’re looking for a quiet, charming place to slow down and enjoy the Outer Banks, this is it. Can’t wait to come back!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Roanoke Island Inn. Our room was #8 which was spacious for 2 but was set up for 4 . Very clean and quiet surroundings, walkable to shops and restaurants. The common areas were well kept and the continental breakfast was great. Lee was very informative and a perfect host. We hope to return soon.
The Roanoke Island Inn is a lovely place. The setting is beautiful. The shared areas are perfect. The room was fairly large with only minor issues. So, why the 3-star rating? Oddly, the SAFETY of the guests. Winding stairs are hazardous. Winding stairs with poor lighting, poor delineation and sub-standard features are inexcusable. To access rooms 4-8, guests must maneuver up a narrow winding staircase that has six treads that are nearly reduced to zero inches in width on the inside. On the wider, outside of the stair, there is a lack of a railing for part of the climb/descent. Carrying luggage makes the traverse frightening and passing someone is impossible to do safely. Please see the photos with 3' (indicating one example of the approx. height covered with virtually no tread-width) and numbers 1-10 (indicating the huge elevation change where six of the ten treads are unexpectedly unusable on one side). There are also two winding stairs that guests of ALL rooms must traverse. These involve four steps/five levels in the breezeway area which are poorly lit making it very difficult to discern the location of the tread "noses". Please see the photos with the numbers 1-5 shown (indicating levels). You can barely see the individual odd-shaped stairs and may easily mistake one level for part of another. If you are elderly or have small children and are a guest at RII, please be aware of these hazards and don't forget to be diligent EVERY TIME you use these stairs during your stay. To the owner, please, minimally, put some sort of dilineators on the front edge of the treads. Also, please add lighting which would draw your guests' attention to the odd-shaped treads. Consider additional hand rails and/or warning signs.
We had a wonderful long weekend at the Roanoke Island Inn in spite of the excessive heat! Our room was pleasant and comfortable. The Inn is extremely well located to downtown Manteo and everything is walkable. The Lost Colony and the Elizabethan Gardens are a very short drive away. Getting to a perfect location to Nags Head beach is just a quick drive (thanks for the use of the beach towels and chairs!). The hosts were amazing, welcoming and very friendly as well as helpful with suggestions or anything you needed. It was so nice to have a well stocked kitchen area to share with the other guests in the reception. The continental style breakfast was a perfect start to the day. The property is beautiful with the garden area. My favorite spot was the breezeway on the second level -- absolutely loved the view, the rocking chairs and the breeze off the water! We we will be back perhaps when it is cooler!
