We've had a wonderful room, firm mattress and pillows, and very clean. Our breakfast has been fantastic with great selection. The owners are very friendly (just like family) . They are very informative about this area and great suggestions . We will be back !

We were little bit sceptic about this place due to some negative reviews on websites. However, we were POSITIVELY surprised with the Island House. Not only was the external garden pleasantly organized, but also the internal accommodation is pleasantly decorated. They have a dedicated bathroom in the room. They are tiny, by they are private – big PLUS. The shower in our room was slightly outdated but still clean and private. Additionally, hosts were very nice and polite. Every evening there was cake, or cookies (or both ?) with coffee or tea – self-service. Breakfasts were tasty, prepared by the hosts. The time we were there, they served hand grown tomato – very nice! We definitely recommend this place, and we will consider it next time coming to the Outer Banks NC.

First, I have never left a bad review. I typically take the approach that everyone has an off day and that day does not be immortalized on the internet. However, there are really no bad reviews for this B&B and I feel that is completely inaccurate. I booked this for a weekend trip to attend a wedding. I am truly surprised that the ratings are so high. I would never recommend this B&B to anyone, even those on a budget, like we were. PROS: The owners were nice. The outside of the house was cute and convenient to town. Parking was also easy. CONS: Cleanliness. The floors were covered in large area rugs. It was homey, but it was also obvious the rugs had not been cleaned in a very long time. Parts that were meant to be white or cream were brown. I wore my shoes while in the room. There was also no mattress protector. Just sheets between you and whoever else has slept in the bed. All blankets, including the comforter, had that distinctive "not been washed in a while" musty, stale smell. The worst part was the shower. We stayed in Zena's room. The website shows pictures of the toilet but not the shower, which I found odd but didn't think too much of. Lesson learned, if there isn't a picture, then there's probably a reason for it. Pictures attached say it all. I could have gotten over the bad caulking job but the shower floor had obviously not been cleaned in a very long time. A deep scrub with bleach would have fixed this. If the owners are not willing to clean something as obviously filthy as the shower floor then it leads me to think that the same neglect applies to other things in the home. My husband and I were so grossed out that we didn't eat the complimentary breakfast. If the house is dirty then you can't tell me that the food preparation is up to snuff. Last, there is a rooster somewhere on the property or owned by a neighbor that serves as an early morning alarm. It began squawking while it was still dark out and continued every 5 minutes all the way until we checked out a few hours later. I've been around my fair share of roosters and this one by far has the most stamina. I do not think this is a one time issue as this rooster woke us up both mornings. I booked the Island House of Wanchese B&B because it had great reviews and was within our budget. After having paid for a full weekend, I wish the other reviews had been more honest. This is not a sweet, charming B&B experience. If my husband and I had not already spent so much on the wedding (he was in the wedding party), we would have ate the cost of Wanchese and gone somewhere else. Instead, we chose to spend as little time in the room as possible.

Best bed and breakfast ever!!! Staff was amazing, helped us with any and everything, and showed us to our rooms. The house is beautiful. Reminds me of a movie. Got a great night sleep and woke up to an amazing breakfast with the freshest fruits, juice, and everything you can think of for breakfast. Thanks so much Bernie!!! you are an awesome host and great cook!!! She helped us with finding local restaurants, and best spots for local seafood! will be back for sure! Would give 10 stars if we could!!!

We stayed 5 nights for a wedding. What a great place. Away from the crowds yet close to everything. Jean is a wonderful host. A fantastic and expansive breakfast each day, then cake in the afternoon. We could not have asked or hoped for more. Highly recommended.

A lovely B&B! It's like staying with family. Lovely rooms and the owner is especially good at making you feel welcome and appreciated. A huge morning breakfast prepared fresh in the kitchen! I will definitely stay again and encourage others to as well. Perfect location that is not in the hustle of the tourists. It feels like an oasis.

My husband and I stayed a week in late August this year( 2022). Our room was clean, comfortable and lovely. The breakfasts were really delicious with many wonderful goodies. We felt like it was a home away from home. Everything was wonderful including the people who manage this treasure home. We will be back???
