The Sea Foam Motel offers a unique, retro experience with an excellent beachfront location and friendly staff. While praised for its charm and affordability, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in cleanliness and maintenance, as well as noise concerns. Despite these issues, many guests appreciate the historic ambiance and convenient access to the beach.

Well…..this hotel is OLD and they market it that way. We were excited to get the vintage feel, but not prepared for the condition of the room. Everything is old, and it smelled musty from the moment we walked in. The bed was actually very comfortable, but the first night we got very little sleep, because the walls are paper thin, and the group next door came in quite loud at 3:00 AM! The shower is the worst part….it goes from cold to scalding hot several times throughout your shower with no warning. Omg! The ac didn’t work in our unit. We had it set at 61, which is as low as it would go but it was still super warm in our room. I did see one little German cockroach, but it retreated into the baseboard before I could get a picture. Definitely would not stay here again.

Really really great location! Having a beach access from the hotel is awesome! The room was a double queen/ pool side, but the beach access was literally steps away. Parking is a bit hard I don’t recommend a full size truck. Car/ suv is no problem. Room was very spacious, mini fridge , microwave and coffee maker. I do recommend shopping before you get to the outer banks, but there is a market, ice cream restaurants and kfc in close close walking distance. Beds were super comfortable! Staff was very nice and responsive! Felt very safe at this location, no weird people. Seemed to be good fishing for folks and they didn’t have to haul the gear far!

I stayed here a few years ago and fell in love with the place. Yes it is very retro, knotty pine walls & ceiling, green tiled bathroom but the location cannot be beaten & neither can the staff. They were ever so accommodating for my small dog and self & I can still see in my mind the room, the beach, the outside chairs to sit & have a cocktail. It was wonderful, the best!! Thank you I'm so sorry for the delay in my review, but after years of battling certain health issues I'm playing catch up and you were the first on my list. Thank you so much for a beautiful memory.

They have the brightest whitest-white bed sheets and the towels!!! The cleanliness is such a rare thing nowadays , that valuing it, you just forgive all the outdated but cute details of this old motel! We loved staying there! And we appreciated the hospitality and warmth of the stuff! +easy access to the beach (oceanfront next to the pier), and walking distance from the Village pizza place(wonderful sunset spot) and the Dunes restaurant, we had a nice traditional breakfast at. Affordable price for the basic king room #25 - You can hear TV/conversations/everything from the neighbor next door)) the walls are thin… Nevertheless we slept soundlessly)) Everyday we were observing the stuff cleaning the sand, repairing something, wiping the windows etc. Such a good care for the facility and the guests! I totally recommend! We’ll be back!?

The best trip! My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon this past weekend and stayed at the Sea Foam. Cute, clean, and the best spot in Nags Head!

We stayed at Seafoam Motel in Nags Head, NC for a couple of nights during Christmas, and it was a perfect location right on Route 12 with easy access in both directions. Our second-floor room had a beautiful view of the left side of Jennette’s Pier. Watching the sunrise peak over the pier was absolutely stunning. It’s also a great spot for photography, especially if you want amazing shots without having to step onto the beach. Peaceful stay with a fantastic view—would definitely stay here again.

Sea Foam Motel is an absolute gem and one of those rare places that keeps us coming back year after year. From the moment you arrive, it feels like stepping back in time to the 1960s—in the best possible way. The motel has a wonderfully quaint, nostalgic charm that’s getting harder and harder to find, and it proudly embraces that “back in time” feel while still making thoughtful updates that improve comfort without losing character. Every visit, we notice little improvements, but the heart and soul of the place always remain the same. One of the things we love most is how affordable it is. We never feel like we’re paying an arm and a leg, whether we’re squeezing in a short weekend getaway or settling in for a longer stay. Sea Foam is perfect for both quick escapes and extended weekends. We especially enjoy visiting in the off-season, when things are quieter and more relaxed, but summer has its own special energy and charm here too. The staff truly make this place feel like a home away from home. They are incredibly friendly—almost overly friendly in the most genuine, welcoming way—and always make us feel like returning family rather than just guests. That warm, homey atmosphere is something you can’t manufacture, and Sea Foam has it in abundance. We also love the thoughtful amenities that add to the fun and nostalgia. The shuffleboard courts are a great touch and perfect for relaxed afternoons, and it’s a huge plus that the motel is pet-friendly, so we can bring our furry family members along. The property is strictly non-smoking, which we really appreciate—it keeps everything feeling clean, fresh, and comfortable. Location-wise, you can’t beat it. Sea Foam Motel is close to everything in the OBX, making it easy to get to beaches, shops, restaurants, and attractions without ever feeling crowded or hectic. It’s the perfect home base for exploring the Outer Banks while still feeling tucked into your own peaceful, retro retreat. All in all, Sea Foam Motel is more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience. If you love nostalgia, friendly faces, fair prices, and a cozy, throwback vibe that never tries to be something it’s not, this place is an absolute must. We already look forward to our next visit every time we leave.

Room was very clean and bed was comfortable..view was amazing. Pillows were not adequate and there was no shampoo, nor a hair dryer.. I guess I should have checked but I’ve never stayed anywhere that didn’t provide those items..

We have just returned from our week stay at the Sea Foam and it was simply a delight. The room was extremely clean, the view was fantastic and the beach access is amazing. This is the place to go for a very relaxing beach vacation. The staff were wonderful and all the people we met were amazing. We will be back!!! If you are looking for a modern elevated place this is not the place for you. BUT if you are looking for a cozy room, wonderful people and amazing beach views/access. This is a must!!!! We will be back!

The day we arrived there was a bad storm that left water leaking in the front door and the ceiling from the second floor walkway. Thankfully there was a dehumidifier already in our room that we had to dump at least 4 times a day for our 5 day stay. Front desk lady was not friendly at all, always acted like everyone was bothering her when you went in there. When we checked in we only got one key and was told “there was only one key because someone must have taken the other key home”. Not to mention we were oceanfront and our key did not open the back door, so we could only lock the front door. What an inconvenience that is having to walk around front from the beach. Our frig did not have a freezer and our coffee pot cord was to short to even plug in. The pool had a black ring of scum around on the tile and needed to be vacuumed. There was a guy out every morning what looked to be vacuuming the pool but when we went to get in after he was done, the pool still had sand all over the bottom and dirt and grass floating on the top. The baby pool wasn't even up high enough for the skimmer to fill up. Motel could be really nice with just a little TLC. The location I am sure is what brings people back year after year, for $250 a night it should not be full of black mold. The beds were comfortable, but that was about it. We and the rest of our party a total of 6 rooms, won't be returning. So my suggestion to anyone with breathing or asthma problems is DO NOT stay at the Sea Foam.
