The Hatteras Island Inn offers a convenient and affordable place to stay near Hatteras and Avon, North Carolina. While some guests appreciate its location and value, recurring concerns include humidity issues, bathroom problems, and occasional staff rudeness. Recent reviews indicate improvements in cleanliness and staff friendliness compared to older feedback.
We booked a very last minute stay here, it was the only room available in between Hatteras and Avon…and also the cheapest, so I didn’t expect it to be nice - and it wasn’t. We only needed a place to shower and rest our heads for two nights, and overall, it got the job done. The beds were comfy, there was a TV with cable, check in was easy, and it’s in a very convenient location. However, there was a dehumidifier in our room that became full every 30 minutes and the room was still so humid. The rooms are carpet and the carpet felt wet from the humidity which is molds biggest dream. The bathroom had cracking in the wall behind the toilet, like the bathroom upstairs was leaking, or did previously. There was also mildew on the walls in the bathroom. Lastly, the drawers smelled super funky and had stains in them. I probably wouldn’t stay here again.
Customer service was great! The room not so much, for over $200 a night we got a fairly musty room, an ac unit that really couldn’t keep the room cold, and a there was a dehumidifier in the room.
Nice clean little local hotel. Easy check-in. Clean rooms. Really cool observation tower! Right on the edge of town. I don't need any photos
Just going to have to rate this place as okay. There is never a front desk person, you have to call a number to get someone. There was no stopper for the tub. The coffee pot is super small and smelled moldy. A coffee pot in the hotel office area would be nice. The pool was not open yet and there is a water hose to wash off your feet when coming from the beach, however, we couldn't get it to work. The watchtower was cool though and the bed was comfortable. Memories were still made. Also keep in mind, there is still a tremendous amount of damage in the area from Hurricane Erin, and the light house is closed because it is being restored. Not 100% sure I would recommend or stay here again.
Such a wonderful place to stay. Great location. The bed was so comfortable. The staff was very friendly. Great room rates. We would recommend anyone to stay there. Nice room for the price.
We were trapped here in winter because of a storm. The manager opened it up for us and was very gracious, allowing us a super late checkout time to allow the roads to open. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Although my experience was during the time when it's not "Tourist Season", the staff was very polite and kind, the room was clean and tidy. It included a microwave, mini-refrigerator, and even a clothes iron and ironing board. I definitely suggest it.
Room smelled fresh and was clean. Short walk to beach. Great location- Close proximity to ramps. Fish cleaning area. Pool seemed well maintained. Lost a star only due to cosmetic issues that make it look dirty when it's really not- needing some major updating in the rooms and paint, but we'll be back!
Stayed here last year it was a brilliant stopover we booked extra nights. Clean safe reasonable price and convenient on our road trip. Its not a 5 star hotel but its got everything you need. Actually went up in the lookout tower.
Stayed 2 nights for the OBX Jeep Invasion and to do some fishing. Room was clean and comfortable. Front desk attendant was very polite and pleasant to talk to. Only complaint is that another patron was smoking just outside of our window and the smell of the smoke came into our room through the AC, of course not at the fault of the Inn. Would stay there again.
