The Mariner Inn & Suites offers convenient beachfront access and a decent breakfast at an affordable price. While recent renovations are underway, guest feedback is mixed, with some praising the staff and value, others noting cleanliness concerns, dated rooms, and maintenance issues like broken appliances and plumbing problems. The property is an older hotel with some quirks.
The room was very clean & cool. We stayed in a double full suite. Me & my two children. The beds are pretty hard! Like very firm! The fridge door would not stay shut & the fridge didn’t get very cold. The location was great though! The “beach view” wasn’t exactly what I expected, it’s not super close to the beach but it still was a nice view on the 2nd & 3rd floors. No elevator & there are stairs to get to the 1st floor. The pool is actually a decent size, however I did have to clean it because there was balls of hair, leaves, bugs, all kinds of yuck floating on the top. Breakfast was a nice variety! Eggs & cheese, biscuit & gravy, sausage patties & links, pancakes, cereal, milk, coffee, bagels, bread/toast & jelly. They were out of apple & orange juice for our stay. Overall for the price I paid ($150) in June it was worth it.
The staff are sooooo accommodating and friendly. Our first time staying here and the staff alone is reason to return. Beach front, very easy access to the beach. The pool was very clean and relaxing as well. The cleaning lady brought us anything we needed and right away when we asked for towels etc. the only reason I gave the Room a 4 is because our sink in the bathroom was stopped up but in their defense I never asked them to look at it since we are private people and didn’t really want anyone in the room. The air conditioning was ice cold and was Wonderful. Definitely get a suite as we did. The other building for just regular rooms is a little outdated since it’s older. That’s where my daughter and fiancé got a room. We will definitely be back!
I was looking for a beach view in OBX and this was a perfect location with beach access. Clean and comfortable room and generous hot breakfast. While I wanted a balcony view of the ocean, I settled for a view of the ocean just past the parking lot. Great view of the sunrise if you head to the beach. My only “complaint “ was that in the middle of the night people were noisy and woke me up going to their room. Otherwise, nice comfortable stay with different pieces points. In retro spect, I could have saved some money by getting a street view, then watched the sunset of the “hidden” shared walkway overlooking ocean
We definitely want to stay at the Mariners again… the location is great within a walking distance to the beach and the staff are very friendly and accomodating. My fam had a great time esp when the staff upgraded our room to a suite and made us check in very early.Very thoughtful since we travelled for 6 hrs to get there. Suite room is amazing for the price we pay but the normal room is quite small.Cleanliness is fine, but not excellent. Breakfast is better compared to most of the 3 stars (Choice hotel) we stayed before though the dining is not so spacious and limited in comparison to the number of rooms they have. But overall, it was a great stay.?
Great stay at The Mariner! Every staff member I interacted with was kind and helpful. The property is currently being renovated, so there are a few minor growing pains, but it’s already a really cute place in a great location. Loved the Roku TVs and the seamless keyless check-in process. Good breakfast variety too. Overall, a great value and I’d definitely stay again!
BEWARE of this place, it is filthy and totally unacceptable!!! Dehumidifier in the rooms, outdated, smell of pet urine. My son has very bad allergies and after 20 minutes could not breathe. Tried to relocate to another room but just as bad if not worse. Had to book another hotel for three day weekend. Hotel refuses to give any refund. Manager will not reply to me or Expedia. I’ll have to take the loss but very unfair. Looks like a bargain but far from it. Pictures are all outdated. STAY AWAY!!!!
The room was good. I enjoyed the separate sitting area. The bed was so comfortable! One drawer of the dresser was broke and we did let management know about it. Breakfast was eggs, bagels, toast and muffins. I would have liked fruit. Ice maker was broken. Remotes for the tv didn’t work until they changed out the batteries. TVs worked for about 15 minutes and then went off. They said spectrum was having an issue. We had the maintenance guy spend about 20 minutes trying to get it to work. When he left, we had 4 Spanish speaking channels on the living room tv and 4 stations on the bedroom tv (luckily it was the Olympics ). But again it was sporadic in working.
My sister and I escaped the chaos of families for the weekend and we had a super relaxing visit. We regrouped and were able to tolerate our husbands, kids and animals again after returning!? We thought our suite was PUUUUUURRRRRFFFFEEECCCTTTT!!! Office staff AMAZING!! !! Location was breathtaking!! I enjoyed the breakfast and the all day coffee!!! I personally prefer to have the old style breeze ways instead of having to go through a lobby- this old style suits me super! I will def return during the warmer months as a walk on the beach with temp in the 20’s and 30’s with wind chill making the temp feel like the teens! All in all… a super great get away!!!
I come to the OBX for work and stay at the Mariner for the central convenience of the location. The staff may not answer the phone but when you see them, they are always friendly and helpful. I love the warm greetings i receive from the staff. They even had a jump box for when my battery in my car died. I'm thankful for the Mariner. Most likely, my next stay so be here too! I love the easy access to the beach too!
On a positive note, the front desk person was very sweet. On a not-so-positive note, I had a hard time sleeping in the room due to a blinking blue light on the wall. There were some crumbs in one of the beds. The room temperature was finicky and loud. I couldn't get the TV to work properly. Not much of a breakfast situation, I think there were only pancakes. You could easily smell the cigarette smoke from with the room. Beach access and location was great.
