The See Sea Motel offers an affordable and convenient base for exploring the Outer Banks, particularly for those seeking a budget-friendly stay. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistent cleanliness, parking challenges, and occasional service issues, alongside positive feedback concerning location and value.
Checked in tonight to get an extra day before my house rental’s available. Seamless reservation and check-in process. Amenities are as described. Room is clean and exactly as advertised. Exterior could use some help, but that’s how it goes when the air is as salty as it is here. Parking is fine.. tons of comments saying how tight it is, but the photos show that. I drive a Silverado and it fits just fine. Would recommend for folks trying to grab an extra day or 2 out of their vacation! Wouldn’t recommend for people who don’t know how to drive and or/park.
The only good thing about this place is the location. THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR A/C OVER NIGHT (remotely)IF THEY FEEL ITS TO LOW. WENT TO BED WITH IT a/c 70 WOKE UP WITH IT AT 84. The parking lot is so small if we parked in front of our room it would have blocked the road out. Then walk in the room its hotas all get out almost 90 degrees in there we turn the a/c on, finally after like 4 hours its a decent temp. The toliet runs not stop the tv didnt work. The room was dirty as there was 1in thick of dust and the mirror was dirty. I wouldnt walk around without shoes. The refrigerator was turn off basically there was water we had to clean up where the freezer defrosted. took almost all night to get it cold enough for even drinks. We bought some homemade ice-cream and had to throw it away because the freezer wasn't cold enough to keep it frozen. Then probably our biggest thing was that it the room was finally a okay temp in the room that we could try to sleep on top of the covers it was still 73 degrees then when we woke up sweating because they remotely turned our a/c back to 84 while we were sleeping. It was cooler outside than in the room. We had such a terrible sleep we didn't even finish our vacation we just came home because we were so tired. I would have left that night if we thought we could have safely made it home. Called that noght of stay told manager would be there sunday. Called at 9am to talk to someone and no answer havnt been able to get ahold of anyone. Finally got ahold of someone at 2 pm same person as night before he told me the manager would be in monday. Just called this morning (monday) got the same guy and told they wouldn't be in until tomorrow. He said that its only the manger and he him, so the manger works when he dont, but yet dont know when the manager works.
This was the first time my husband and I lodged at the SeeSea. Our room (#18)was very clean and updated. The pool is small but very clean. This motel is not right on the beach but within walking distance. Very budget friendly too. We will definitely stay here again.
For anyone considering this place as an option, I would suggest not to spend your hard earned money here. This was our first time visiting the outer banks from across the state. While the location was not terrible and provided easy access, I would say that's about the only good thing it has to offer. Our family stayed in the Big Kahuna Suite and it was disgusting. Upon entering the apartment style room, a stench hits you in the face and lingered the whole stay. The carpets were filthy and stained, as was the couch and bedding. The kitchen was not correctly depicted as in the images. It was very disappointing having arrived after a long drive and facing this. It is not fair to spend this much and have such terrible spaces. There is minimal service and toiletries. The parking was tight for a family car as well. The wifi was spotty and often had a notification saying it was not secure. The cleaning ladies provide a few things such as toilet paper if asked and were super kind. Again, just don't contribute to this service.
Excellent location, smaller modest motel. There was not enough TP in the room(s). That's about the only complaint I can think of. Staff doesn't seem to be on site, which is fine. Contact info was given in case they were needed (they were not). Seemed clean enough. Not much time spent in there other than to sleep so it definitely served its purpose. We just might be repeat visitors.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the See Sea Motel. For the price and convenience you cannot beat it. As others have commented about dirty rooms— ours was NOT. It was clean and comfortable. As others have commented about parking— we had NO issue and we drove in an F150 and a Tahoe. We were not inconvenienced at all about having to walk our trash to a can, not having ice, or anything else. All of that information was made readily available at booking. We planned ahead and brought breakfast and lunch foods with us and ate in our room or by the pool daily. I think the only thing we were truly missing was a small table or a chair in our room— something other to sit on beside the bed. But otherwise we give this place a 10/10 for affordability, comfort and convenience.
Let me start this off by saying I am a frequent flyer of OBX and my family owned a condo in Manteo for 12 years so I know the area and what to expect. Beach access is 300ft/ 1 football field away from the building which is as close as you’re going to get in the OBX for non-ocean front. Parking is VERY tight and there is only enough spots for ONE vehicle per room, so plan accordingly. If you drive a full- sized truck or a suburban/tahoe, you’ll want to park by the street. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it was a tight fit, but doable. Just make sure you’re not the person blocking the drive thru because you didn’t pull forward as much as you could. The code for the door will not work until your check in time, but we arrived early and called and Logan activated it early for no charge which was amazing and highly appreciated. We stayed in room 13 which was pet friendly and there were no odors or any signs a pet had been in the room. The rooms were nice and the bedding was clean. The beds are really firm but comfortable and clean. The pillows are thin/small & could use improvement, but for the price point, they are fine. The bed linens were super soft and so were the towels/wash clothes. They do need to add broom/dustpan in the rooms but I just went to the dollar tree and got one to clean up sand. You’ll also want to bring a fly swatter or get one due to the doors being outside facing and the inevitable fly coming inside. There isn’t an ice maker but there is a freezer in the mini fridge and we just grabbed a $1 ice cube tray and made our own in the room. If you have a lot of hanging clothes, you’ll want to bring hangers but know space is limited for those. The AC in the room works great, but we did notice heat coming in through the bathroom vent fan, but we just kept the door shut. The TVs are high quality but do not have streaming apps so if that’s your thing, you’ll want to bring a fire stick or do screen mirroring from a iPad/tablet. There is one outlet on each side of the bed but only 1 free plug, so if you need more plugs, you might want to bring a surge protector strip. The bathroom is small but clean and there is storage room under the sink cabinet. There was never enough towels and wash clothes. The staff and customer service line (Logan) was super helpful and called us back each time within 10 minutes and requesting extra towels didn’t take long at all. It’s no Hilton/Marriott but I REALLY do think this is a hidden gem overall for the price and location. The remodel they have done makes is one of the more updated places to stay. I do wish they had a handheld shower head to help with washing the sand off, but that’s just my personal preference. I would also recommend bringing trash bags due to the trash can in the room being really small. You may also want to bring a drying rack or clothes line for your wet stuff and you’ll want to bring beach towels, cutlery, and paper plates. There were paper towels in our room which was nice and plenty of toilet paper. I do wish there were hand soap pumps, but I just grabbed a $1 bottle from the Dollar Tree that’s a 2-3 minute drive. Parking is the biggest downfall but there isn’t much they can do about it due to limited space in the area. If you have multiple cars or large vehicles, I’d call ahead and see if they recommend other parking arrangements.
We have stayed several times within the past few years. Our first visit was great, very clean and nothing to complain about. Our second visit here we noticed as soon as we arrived that the floor was filthy. As soon as we stepped foot on the hard floor it made your feet turn black. We had to clean it ourselves. We ended up wearing sandals throughout. This past weekend we stayed one night in Room 15. Right away when we got there we noticed the floor was not clean, the baseboards especially in the bathroom were very dusty and so were the appliances. We went out for dinner and got back late to find not one parking spot at all. There were room guests with multiple vehicles taking up the spots. I feel like you should have a rule and over flow parking for people with more than 3 vehicles. It's not fair to those of us with one vehicle who just wanted to get back into our room. We had to call the hotel's emergency number to find out where we could even park. Finally we agreed on parking on the opposite side of the where our room is in handicapped spot as long as they knew we were parked there and not tow us. I couldn't sleep that night knowing what could happen to my car. Also drainage in that lot is a major issue when it rains! I think this may be the last time we stay at this hotel for this and multiple reasons.
… this is the second time I have stayed here… I think it is the best kept secret 3 days around new years… I had room 6 everything was as expected I ham hard of Mobility so I liked the room right at the car door with just a little step up Parking is a little tight but we had no problems… we almost had the place to ourselves… probably should look into a fresh paving job… getting around the north side of the building is a challenge… especially if the guest doesn’t pay attention and never moves the car I had no problems with check in and check out… I fell the contactless method is a positive The service Lady came by we happened to see her in the parking lot and she gave us more Towels and whatever we Might need… She Was very nice Overall I think it is a great place
Great location with nearby beach access. From the pictures it seemed that the rooms were recently renovated - we must have received a unit that was only halfway there. Nice (small, but clean and new) bathroom, but a living space with a floor so filthy and stained that we wore shoes in the entire time. There is no closet, which was a surprise as we were attending a wedding and had a suit and dress that needed to be hung up. Parking is a nightmare. The place was barely occupied while we were there and we still had trouble navigating around parked trucks. The worst part was the smell and humidity level of the room. It was musty and icky. Our bedding and towels felt damp upon arrival. After the first night we woke up stuffy, with sore throats and red eyes. Our clothing smelled like mildew after we left. I would have liked to ask for another unit, but there is no staff on property after 5pm and the next day we were busy with the wedding. We just tried to be in the room as little as possible.
