The John Yancey Oceanfront Inn consistently receives positive feedback, particularly for its beachfront location and friendly staff. Recent reviews highlight improvements to the property, including remodeled rooms and updated amenities. However, some guests have expressed concerns regarding room maintenance and occasional issues with cleanliness and functionality, despite the overall positive experience.
This is a true gem. I had an expectation of what I was hoping the outer banks would be like. I chose this property with a balcony view of the ocean. Spectacular! The only thing missing was the sunshine. I will be back. BTW the room was very comfortable, clean and quiet.
The remodel of the hotel is more than expected. Great location and craftsmanship of the building. Huge plus always hot water!! The breakfast area is a separate room, washer/dryer area and the staff is awesome. Meet a couple of fellow WV folks also. Highly recommend the hotel. Also a game area and outdoor pool along with kid friendly play area. ???
Overall it was a really good experience. We booked an oceanfront room and that was honestly the best part of the stay. The view was just perfect. I could see the ocean right from the room, the sunrise over the water, and the whole beach vibe was so peaceful and refreshing. Waking up to that view every day felt so good. The room itself was okayish, nothing too fancy, but comfortable enough for a beach stay. Everything was decent and manageable. What I really appreciated was the hospitality. The staff were very polite and welcoming, and they made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. Housekeeping was also good. They cleaned the room every day, and everything was maintained properly. That consistency really matters during a vacation. Overall, it was a nice and relaxing experience. Especially if you book the oceanfront room, the view alone makes it worth it. I would definitely consider visiting again.
Traveled by myself for work in the winter, and was perfect for me! Located right next to great eatery like Kill Devil Grill, Shaka, and grocery stores. I got a side view ,third floor room for a steal on booking.com. Love love love the colors and the balcony too! Easy pre checkin on my phone. EXTRA counter space plus sink very useful, plus a desk for my laptop. I did not have to do much walking to my room, and having elevator so great considering alot of beachy places just have stairs. Looks newly glow up. I recommend .
Very disappointed. The rooms don’t have carpet and the floor was dirty and it also had a bad odor. The bathroom door slides and don’t close all the way so if your companion has to do other things in the bathroom, the smell will be in the entire room. The bed was very uncomfortable so if you or your companion have any back issues, I do not recommend. All rooms don’t have a tv that will allow you to stream Netflix so please request that when you make reservations. No phone was in the room. I’m not sure if that’s the case for all rooms but the room I was in didn’t have one. If you need to call the front desk for any reason, you will have to use your personal cellphone. If you’re use to staying in the more popular hotels/resorts, this one isn’t for you. I was extremely disappointed. I have included pictures of the bathroom door.
I had to be on the coast for a week for work. And this place was a great price. I arrived at night but the lady at the check in desk was friendly and got me to my room quickly. Breakfast is just grab and go. Muffins and coffee. Other wrapped things to microwave. The place is a little dated and there is sand...but its the coast. My room was 98% clean. Once there is sand it stays, thats just the beach. I avoid the coast whenever I can because of the sand. My bathroom was the highlight. Clean and it looked recently redone. It was super quiet being it was off season. All in all, for the price I'll probably stay here again.
Where do I start? This place is great. The professionalism from Kay at the front desk was second to none. She made the entire process a breeze and was very thorough and a great representation of the company. The room has a fantastic view and feels a lot more like a cottage than a hotel/inn. The whole facility looks and smells clean but the employees are where they really shine. If you are thinking about coming here, DO IT!
We have been guests at the John Yancey Inn for 4-5 years now, it's always been our go-to place to stay when we come down. Unfortunately after this last experience we had, we are reconsidering where to stay next time we are in the OBX. We rented the penthouse for 4 nights for a great price, unfortunately the price was one of the few positives. While the staff and customer service are both always stellar and were this time as well, the room fell short of our expectations. We have stayed in the penthouse before and LOVED it, but this time we had quite a few issues. The TV in the bedroom was messed up, it was stuck in demo mode like if you were watching TV in a store before buying the TV. (Maintenence couldnt fix this, they had to order a whole new TV for the bedroom) There was an ant problem, I came back in to find my clothes, bedside table, and wall covered in ants so maintenence had to come spray the room twice, the mattress is hard and uncomfortable, the toilets were different this year, they were difficult to flush (the handle was hard to push down) and they made a lot of noise while refilling. The sink in both bathrooms had issues with clogging because the stoppers were messed up. The doorknob to our closet was falling off so we couldn't use that closet. And the sofa in the living room is extremely squeaky and worn out feeling. We also had an issue with the dishwasher, the area for the soap that's supposed to click shut wouldn't close, it just kept popping open. And finally, while the penthouse is on the fourth floor so its not a huge concern, the balcony doors wouldn't lock. Overall we are very sad about this last experience because we have always loved and absolutely raved about this hotel, but sadly it seems like the condition of the rooms may be being let go a bit, which is disappointing to say the least, especially when staying in whats supposed to be the nicest and most expensive room available on property.
Great location! Right off the beach! There was seating with tables right on the beach that my boyfriend and I enjoyed our dinner at one evening. The rooms look renovated within thr last few years or so, but could use some updates. The staff wad amazingly friendly! Would definitely go back and recommended this Inn to everyone.
This stay was absolutely perfect - from the warm welcome at the reception to the beautiful, well-equipped room. The experience was completed by a stunning view of the evening Atlantic and the surrounding terrace. The breakfast was delicious, and cooling off in the pool was also very pleasant (open from 10 am to 10 pm). I must also highlight the housekeeping staff. Their meticulousness greatly contributes to the overall impression of the stay. If I have the opportunity in the future, I would love to return. 10/10 - the best hotel on our USA road trip.
