Guests rave about the unbeatable price, prime beachfront location, and stunning views from higher floors. However, the property frequently receives complaints regarding lack of transparency regarding hidden amenities and inconsistent housekeeping standards.
Our room was clean, and check in/out was painless. For the very low price we paid this was a great *_off-season_* accommodation. When we visited, we found the indoor pool had been closed for a number of years, but this was not advertised on the listing, and ended up being a minor disappointment. The overall condition/upkeep is somewhat lacking, but this is forgivable given the off-season room price and availability. The ocean view from the 3rd floor is pretty good, the off-season sunrise/sets were beautiful. If you want to see the ocean, I highly recommend against floors 1 and 2. The location is really great in terms of distance to food and local attractions.
Absolutely love staying here!! Can’t beat the price, right in the beach & super clean!! If you are in Nags Head or Manteo this place is a must stay!! Close to all the cool stuff & restaurants & the view is amazing!!!
went to on for the first time last yr during the 4th of july. we loved the location and view, the rooms are very average, you get exactly what’s in the photos. we had no issues getting extra towels. the only complaint i have is that the stairs were a workout if you get a 3rd floor room, but the view makes up for it! they also had a luggage thing that could move your luggage to the 3rd story so you didn’t have to carry it. kinda like a tiny elevator for luggage. we took our kids (toddlers) and it was nice. they also have two outdoor pools, and an indoor pool and a hot tub. all very nice. great stay we’ve already booked for this year!
We stay here once or twice a year. All rooms are beach front and there is an indoor pool and hot tub. Some rooms have a kitchen so you can go to the local grocery store and stock up and cook some meals in room. The owners are very helpful and flexible. The rooms are CLEAN. No bugs... no smoking inside the rooms, no weird odors. The Blue Heron is just a great spot to stay.
The Sea Foam Motel is right up the beach and SO MUCH better in every way. Caught an ear infection from the hot tub. Disgusting. Stayed for a week, there was no housekeeping, nobody replaced our towels or toilet paper (only found out after a few days that there was a cabinet in the lobby where you could grab these things. It was never explained, and it apparently cost extra to have them brought to your room). There was never anyone at the front desk, and they tried to make us check in with some kind of robot kiosk. I had to call someone... We checked in at 6pm. Lastly (but not least!) they overcharged us for the pet fee. The website says 35/day, 125 for a week. They charged us 35x7= 245! Later, the front desk (when there was actually someone working) told us they'd refund us the money... And then that night, they charged us again the amount they'd refunded. Very cheap, good location, but staff is lazy and SHADY. Stay at the Sea Foam right up the beach instead. Much more professional.
Enjoyed the size of the bed and having a balcony. It was convenient having a kitchen. Great location. Nice amenities with indoor pool and hot tub, but was dark. The bathroom was too small. No walk-in shower. The stairs were old and in need of repairs. There is no elevator or handicapped ramps to higher floors. The balcony could be screened because the deck chairs were either sandy or dirty. Need rugs because sand tracked in room from everywhere. The storm door's screen was torn. Had pots and plates, but no silverware or glasses. Could have been a little cleaner.
The room comfortable, smelled fine and clean. Location!...on the beach...you can walk out the back door and you are at the beach. Weird check in...a phone call and an email Front desk person kindly let us back on our room: if you leave out the back door and pull it shut to lock, be sure not to latch the front door or you can't get in with the cardkey and have to go to the office for help. He was nice about it though, but maybe they could explain and warn about that when you check in. A pleasant place really
The place itself is pretty good. Nice TV, kitchenette, chairs on the front and back. I just hope you don't want to sleep at night if you're on the first floor. From 7 P.M. to 5 A.M. seems to be time to move furniture for upstairs guests. Edit: I wa wrong...Apparently they spend the whole day rearranging. They're never happy.
Our overnight stay at the Blue Heron was pleasant. This is an older property & it reflects that; however, they are currently doing renovations & our room appeared to have been recently painted. It was very nicely done & the room was so pretty! The room was immaculately clean, the bed & pillows were very comfortable. The views from the 3rd floor absolutely cannot be topped! Front desk attendant offered the minimum of explanation but was pleasant at check in. I didn't see anyone when we checked out; I left the room key cards at the desk & had to hope that was sufficient. As it is an older property, there is no elevator to the 2nd & 3rd floors. If you have any physical issues or don't care to haul your luggage up a couple of flights of stairs, be sure to specify a 1st floor room!
This is a small, quaint, older hotel on the beach rd in Nags Head. It sits on the beach which is a big plus. They have 2 pools(1 indoor, 1 outdoor)of course they are closed this time of year. Not sure why the indoor pool is closed but it's supposed to reopen when I leave. It's bare bones. Free wifi, central air/ heat, a balcony that looks out over the beach if ur in the 2nd or 3rd floors. No elevator so if you can't walk up stairs this isn't the place for you. It's great for a weekend getaway in the season. It's quiet & easy check in. They are working on the ground floor rooms it looks like. Nice TV. Mostly clean but it's showing it's wear in the flooring. No carpet.
