Hotel Manteo receives mixed reviews, primarily citing cleanliness and maintenance issues. Recent feedback highlights significant problems with moisture, dirt, and outdated facilities, while some guests appreciate the location and comfortable beds. However, recurring complaints involving unauthorized charges and poor customer service have emerged, raising concerns about the hotel’s management.
Enjoyed my stay in Manteo. It was quiet and peaceful and close by to the beaches. The rooms were ok except the moisture in the room was weird. I would wake up sticky like I’ve been sweating but I know i wasn’t and a lot of my clothes were damp. Stay was cut short for some reason. Never heard from management about whatever the issue was but I didn’t let that stop my shine. I was able to book an oceanfront view else where on my way home ?
The location is wonderful but the hotel needs some updating. While our beds were clean and comfy, the floors were terribly dirty. The bottoms of our feet and socks were black after walking around in the room.
Booked via the net…high end suite…when i arrived and looked at the room I immediately said I couldn’t stay in such a shabby dump of a suite (dirty, broken furniture, etc). Desk person said OK, we have been having issues with that building. We will refund your booking charge. I thanked them and left. Next day I see the charge on my card. Called hotel. They said their policy meant there would be no refund. Beware of their online photos and DO NOT pay in advance!!!
If I could give 0 star review ? would definitely give it . The room was smelling so bad , not satisfied and it wasn’t looking good as the picture . I was only able to slept for about 5 hour. I was trying open the window and one man was looking at our window through the inside of the car . No privacy, no satisfaction.
“ Ruined Holiday Weekend: Terrible AC, Poor Service, and Unauthorized Charges“ I booked a two-night Memorial Day weekend stay using Wyndham points (cash value was around $250/night before taxes). Based on previous positive reviews, my family was highly anticipating this trip, but our experience was the exact opposite. Check-in set a poor tone. The front desk agent was cold, didn't greet us, and abruptly demanded my ID and credit card. Things worsened when we entered Room 106; it felt incredibly humid and sticky. We left for the Outer Banks (OBX) immediately, but when we returned that night, the humidity was unbearable. When I called the front desk, the agent unhelpfully told me to drop the AC to 65°F or lower. I explained that I have two young kids and 65°F is too cold, but she replied that if I wouldn't lower it, there was nothing she could do, claiming no one had complained about the room in her 11 months there. She refused to come inspect it, claiming she couldn't leave the desk. At 11:30 PM, she called back to say she was sending up a dehumidifier. Setting it up completely woke me up, which is when I realized the AC wasn't actually cooling at all—the fan was blowing, but there was no cold air. My wife woke up from the rising heat, and we spent a miserable, sleepless night. The next morning, it took three separate trips to the front desk before the manager finally moved us to a new room at 1:00 PM. This completely disrupted our planned family activities for the day. While the AC in the second room worked, we still had to use the dehumidifier from the first room to keep it dry. At checkout, the manager insultingly offered just 800 Wyndham points (approx. $10 value) for ruining our first night, which I refused. Our receipt showed a $0 balance since the stay was booked on points and we had no incidentals. Shockingly, two days later, I found an unauthorized charge of $203.52 on my credit card. I am currently disputing this with my bank. **Warning:** I strongly advise against staying here. If you do risk it, watch your credit card statements very closely for fraudulent charges.
We stayed 2 nights on our trip and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and comfortable this place was !! Our room was a king and it was plenty roomy bed was comfortable definitely 5 stars in my opinion and if ever in the area again and need a room this is where we will be staying.
Room was filthy, had bugs, and water pressure was too low to shower. I checked out after only one night of our 4 night reservation, and moved to another hotel in Nags Head. I was told I would receive a FULL refund, and I did not. I was NOT offered a different room like the "manager" replied on my husband's review -- but even it I had been, why would I trust another room to be any better??! I chose this hotel due to it's location -- easy to get to the BlueGrass Festival a mile away, and because it is managed by Wyndham. As a rewards member, I have stayed in many Wyndham motel/hotels and this has never happened to me before. I will never stay in this one again ever, despite the reasonable price (I booked 8 months in advance) and the location. I think Wyndham need to check up on this facility.
The hotel is fine. Rooms really need a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint and room darkening shades. New floors are nice. Beds are comfy. Staff was responsive to requests for cleaning and refrigerator repair.
Ive stayed at this location tons of times over the years as a guest and also a live in under previous management as well as new management. I personally love the renovations. I wish the little cook tops came with a couple more dishes but its not the end of the world. (They seemed to have fixed this) They have a gigantic pool with a very interesting lay out plus it's salt water. I really like Kelly at the front desk bc she is helpful and I also had the pleasure of meeting Charlene the housekeeper. She was nice and helpful as always. I wasn't really thrilled with the third shift front desk agent at all.(Appears to be a different staff member and much nicer but i only heard her voice this time).. I also politely tried to tell her about the backdwimmers that had taken up residence in the Salt pool and she didn't even try to pretend to retain the information. The most recent management hire also seems to need a little training on what to expect regarding occupancy from shoulder season to prime season and back to shoulder season. Her first couple of weeks there she refused to allow me to extend ny reservation for 1 more weekend claiming the hotel had been sold out for the upcoming dates. It was flat out false. Perhaps she anticipated a sold out hotel due to an inaccurate prediction however at the point when it was clear it hadn't sold out and not even close she didn't correct the error. I was not paying a reduced amount and also was not on a do not rent list. It goes much better if you just say that it was a prediction rather than a fact. Thst would have made me a lot less offended. Ive stayed a couple more times since then but the rates are always higher than I feel they should be. Hopefully she will learn that playing fair with off season tenants can and will become your bread and butter during winter months so you should make it a point to show them the same respect you show a 4th of July guest. The renovations are only as nice as you're treated by staff and management. Considering the rate is the same as some ocean front accommodations I would provide stellar customer service at a minimum. Firetender is great though and yes they deliver. Update they seem to be making big progress with the latest front desk manager. Oct 2025 stay has been awesome and she has been very helpful. Room clean and beds amazing.
Looks just like the pictures. If your off put by the outside just know that it’s beautiful on the inside. Bed was soft and room was very clean. Front desk was nice. I was really stunned for the price it was inexpensive and better quality than any of the other places around! Loved our stay would definitely stay again.
