The Hilton Garden Inn Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk offers a prime beachfront location and generally positive guest experiences, particularly regarding its pool and accessibility to the beach. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in service quality, room cleanliness, and billing practices, impacting the overall stay for some guests.
Staff checking us in were not the friendliest, however all other staff was great. The pillows are SO thin. Location being right on the beach was great. Room was clean. Whoever remodeled did a terrible job at simple things, like measuring and cutting, but that's just me being picky. Being able to order breakfast online and pick up was great as well. Would stay again!
This is a great property on Nags Head Outer Banks. There are not a lot of commercial hotels in this is a very nice, clean property. Great beach access and very nice pool. It's not a gigantic resort, but for the Outer Banks it is a really clean beautiful hotel. Staff is super accommodating, we had a large group and they were very helpful and appreciative. Highly recommend to the Hilton Honors members.
Great location with beach access and a pier right there. Check in went smoothly. Elevators are quick. Rooms were spacious and they serviced our room all three days we stayed. I thought that was a thing of the past so I was pleasantly surprised. They have a really nice outside seating area. Parking is good although they had no pull thru for trailers. Breakfast is not included in the room.
Overall, I would rate our stay around 2.5–3 stars. The hotel itself was well maintained, had a nice snack area, and offered a beautiful ocean view, which we appreciated. However, a few issues during our stay made the experience disappointing. The biggest concern was an interaction with a staff member that felt unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. I was working remotely that day and was having difficulty finding a quiet place to take a meeting. I found an empty meeting room with unlocked doors and no signage indicating that the room required a reservation, so I quietly worked there for about an hour. During an active work call with my boss, a staff member abruptly entered the room and asked, “Can I help you?” I politely explained that I was currently in a meeting and asked if I could speak with her in a few minutes once my call wrapped up. Instead, she continued speaking over me to explain that the room needed to be reserved and that someone else would be using it soon. I completely understand if the room was reserved, and I would have happily relocated, but the situation could have been handled much more professionally and respectfully — especially knowing I was actively on a work call. Additionally, the floors in our room felt very dirty. I didn’t feel comfortable walking barefoot and kept my sandals on throughout our stay. The bed also lacked support to the point where I had to sleep on my yoga mat for additional firmness because of my back issues. I was also disappointed by the handling of the pet fees. I was charged over $100 at check-in for our pet, and then upon checkout noticed an additional $75 pet-related charge. It felt as though we may have been double charged, which added to the frustration of the overall experience. There were definitely positive aspects to the property, but unfortunately the customer service experience, room comfort, and billing concerns made this stay fall short for us.
Amazing stay this past weekend. We celebrated our 1 yr anniversary with sunrises and beautiful Ocean front view from our balcony. The staff are/were very friendly and attentive. Chris and Ashley gave our Service dog attention as well. The room was spacious and clean. Had amazing meals at the Aviator Restaurant and again the wait staff were very friendly and accommodating for our Service animal. Definitely will stay there again! It might even become our annual spot!
I was highly disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The customer service was unimaginable/horrible. The young guy and young girl that worked the front desk were unprofessional. They didn't greet before or after checking in. I asked a question of how the breakfast goes for in the morning. Its clearing I was a bother to each of them. There was no hello, no can I help you with anything. If you need help with anything just let me know. I didn't get any of that. Its basic customer service skills that don't require much effort. It's clear housekeeping does not keep the house no more that the two working at the front desk having customer service skills. The bathroom had hair in the shower and on the floors, mildew around the tub, the toilet was loud, the shower had no pressure. I called the front desk; she had no concerns to the conditions I described above. She was completely unbothered with no solutions. She kindly said will that be all. This lady was very unprofessional. She had brownish long hair. Ugh! At 6am the heater made this really loud noise that woke me up out of my sleep. Shortly after that, all I could hear was water draining out of the heater onto the floor. I called the front desk, the same girl answered the phone, clearly, I was bothering her. I got a long sigh and I will call maintenance. There was no apology or anything. So, I had to get out of bed, get dressed, and allow maintenance to resolve the problem. The website states buffet breakfast. I was told you have to order breakfast off the machine by the desk. Hmmm no thank you! The bar/lounge was closed by 9pm on a Friday night. Very frustrating to have to leave your hotel to roam through a town you know nothing about. This was a freaking nightmare. As I'm checking out, this same girl said I hope you enjoyed your stay. I responded having your sleep disturbed by a loud heater and running water wouldn't prompt me to say my stay was great. She had the nerve to say, "I've never heard of anything like that before" She is part of the problem to what could be a great hotel with a host of other issues. This hotel location does NOT align with the people working here. I will not be returning to this location. There will be no next time.
As a road warrior for business I have to say the service, location and room were outstanding. I had a one night stay a part of my vacation and Ashley at the front desk did a fantastic job of upgrading us to a full ocean view room in the top floor. The hotel occupancy was reasonably high for a January 3rd low season stay. Breakfast at the restaurant was great. Room was clean. Beach access to the pier and views of the Outer Banks sea line were breath taking even with the cold weather. Great Hilton property to stay at. Highly recommended.
My husband is a diamond member through hilton and stays with them frequently. He works out of town a lot so when he books rooms he always books multiple rooms for multiple nights. First he booked 4 rooms for 3 nights and picked the oceanfront view. Once he arrived with his work crew none of the rooms were oceanfront views. They were told that they didnt book for long enough to get the ocean view and that they save those rooms for people who book for long stays. I would have assumed 4 rooms for 3 nights would have been good enough but I guess not. My husband gets his things to his room and shortly after unpacking notices a roach crawling on the wall. He takes a picture and shows the man at the front desk who's response was oh its just a big what do you want me to do about it. He asks for a new room and was made to go pack all of his bags back up by himself and carry them back to the lobby before they would give him a new room. Come morning time they ask about the free breakfast and were told that they do not get the free breakfast. They told him he could only recieve his points for his stay or the free breakfast and that he needed to go on his phone to pick one or the other. When he asks about doing so they told him it was to late and that he needed to do so before checking in. The attitudes of the workers at the front desk made every situation so much worse! As much money as he spends at the Hilton and as often as he stays with them he has never been told this! Remind you this has all been the first night and morning of their 3 night stay. He will not be taking his crew back to this hotel!
We were renting a house for a week with friends, and due to the long drive, we arrived the day before and stayed overnight in the hotel. The location is great and the lobby is beautiful, but the bedroom was just ok. We got the one bedroom suite with the sofabed for our son in the living room. It was like a medieval torture device. He’s slept on a lot of sofabeds in our travels and this was by far the worst one. The actual floor would have been more comfortable. The king bed in the bedroom had decent pillows and the mattress was ok, but the duvet had no cover and clearly hadn’t been washed in awhile and the bed cover was a white polyester that was dirty and scratchy and ugly. They provided coffee maker with one pod and two cups for a room that sleeps four. Not a comfortable stay. I think they are relying on their premium location to get bookings but the guest experience isn’t great.
Definitely wasn't a knock out experience! The lobby is the best feature apparently. Our ocean view room had poor water pressure and the bathroom fan didn't function at all. Manager asked rudely if he could "send somebody up," so I "politely " declined! The place wasn't what you'd expect from a Hilton Hotel.
