The Comfort Inn On the Ocean receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising its friendly staff, convenient beach access, and affordable rates. However, numerous reviews highlight significant maintenance issues, dated facilities, and inconsistent service. While recent stays have had positive experiences, recurring complaints about cleanliness, room conditions, and staff responsiveness indicate underlying problems.
The staff was very friendly, and very welcoming, especially Jeremy. Had a lot of good conversations with him regarding the military and the area. Overall, we had a very good experience and would definitely come back in the future.
Everything was as expected from booking and reviews. Ran into some issues with plumbing repairs being done and Talia at the front desk sorted everything like she was a magician. Shoutout to her and the gentleman that worked the front desk (missed his name unfortunately) during our stay. So kind and accommodating! Every member of staff was truly so pleasant. Have to add as well that the bar/restaurant food was absolutely amazing! First night wanted an easy meal and it was delicious AND affordable to feed my crew of 4.
Great little hotel. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Hotel itself needs refurbishing, it’s quite dated. But room was clean, bedding and mattress very comfortable and supportive. Breakfast is decent. Coffee in rooms is not good, with tiny half assed coffee makers. Bring instant or wait till breakfast. Coffee is decent there. The food from the cafe is unexpectedly delicious and high quality. It’s very handicap, and pet friendly! Easy access to rooms, pool, and they have a great little dog park!!! ??? nice beach observation area too!
The employees were great!! Professional, friendly, & helpful!! Room was perfect & the rate was reasonable. Its nice to have a pet friendly hotel close to home.
Our first time visiting this Comfort Inn location was last weekend, and we plan to book again soon! On arrival, the front desk was very pleasant and friendly. We asked about open restaurants (since most are closed at this time of the year) and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was very nice and clean. We loved the fact the hotel is ocean front so we could step right out to the beach! Complimentary breakfast was provided, and the staff there were great too. This was a clean, safe and friendly location, which seems like a rarity these days. Plus, they are dog friendly! Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will be back soon!
Really enjoyed this huge hotel right on the beach, location right in the middle of OBX making east access to everything. Nice plus is bar and grill in lobby so dont have to go far for food and drink.
We enjoyed our stay at comfort inn on the beach, all of staff was as nice as could be. house keeping was fenminal and we enjoyed our stay and will be back next year. The only issue was my fiance slipped on the pool ladder and injured her leg. Other than that everything was perfect.
Staff is wonderful. Pool is hard to navigate for older folks. Carpet in rooms is terribly worn. All finishes need replacing. Hotel is due for a good makeover. That being said. Everything was clean
Booked this hotel for a 10 day stay. It has to be one of the jankiest choice hotels we've ever stayed in. There are 2 different elevators in this hotel, but it's not what you think. You need to take an elevator to the first floor and another elevator to get to floors 2 through 4. When we arrived our rooms AC didn't work. The suggestion was for us to sleep with the balcony door open all night. Our room overlooked the pool...and the.STREET! The second option was for us to have a fan brought up. Neither of these were acceptable for one night let alone the wait for a part to be ordered, received and installed. We were offered another room with the phrase, "but it's on the first floor". Which didn't seem to be an issue to me since we were already on the second floor, even though you still had to take an elevator or the stairs to get to the first floor. What the person neglected to tell us the first floor is the dog floor! Don't get me wrong I love dogs, however, dogs that aren't properly trained or dogs with separation anxiety do not belong in crowded hotels. The dog across the hall barked any time someone was in the hallway. The people in the room next to us left their 2 little dogs alone for hours and they barked the entire time. When we moved to that room the hallway was dirty with dust bunnies and hair balls the size of small tumble weeds. On the third morning we're were woke up at 6 am by the garbage truck picking up and slamming down dumpsters next to our room, since we were no longer pool side our room overlooked the side of the building which seemed to be a storage area with dumpsters behind it. I finally saw the manager and spoke to him about our issues. He was very understanding and offered extra member points and put our room back to pool side. While this room was more of what we booked it still had its issues. The toilet ran constantly, and the shower dripped constantly. The water pressure in this shower was very weak and took 5 minutes for the water to get hot plus the lever to turn the water on was very hard to turn. The caulk in the tub had mildew growing in it. Before I used it I went and bought tilex and sprayed it then sprayed it after every shower we took. The texture at the bottom of the tub made it look like it was constantly dirty with ground in dirt and deep scratches. The bathroom wall in the top corner by the sink seemed like it had some water issues from somewhere because the paint was bubbling up off the wall and I'm not convinced the 2 spots on the wall to the right of the TV weren't mold growing, but my husband thinks it was just a bad touch up job. On this floor, the third floor, also always smelled like someone was smoking, especially as we got closer to our room. The best things this hotel has going for it is the manager Joel and the evening front desk clerk Phyllis, but I don't think we will be back here. Edit since I can't reply to the owner: The front desk was notified about the barking dogs. While I'm not sure if the guests were notified I do know the guests were not in the room until later. Luckily it wasn't so late that we were trying to sleep and turning the AC on and the volume up on the TV helped drown out the barking.
Room service was decent but the breakfast lady, I think her name was shon, was very rude and started cleaning up and removing everything 30 minutes before breakfast ended. Location is decent but the prices are quite high for a dated hotel. Tubs are stopped up with sand and hair. Wind makes a loud noise when you try to sleep since the balcony doors don’t close up completely. Front desk lady when we checked in gave us the wrong room and parking pass until I had to ask and request it be changed.
