Our stay was just okay. The beds were comfortable and it was a place to sleep and eat. We wouldn’t stay here again. Everything was incredibly run down. Litter outside. The screen on the window was ripped, the outdoor wash-off shower was rusted with water shooting out of holes, room not especially clean, patches of different colors of paint on walls, and issues getting enough hot water. Then the parking. You pay for a room but you don’t get an assigned parking spot or any guarantee that you’ll get a spot! Getting in and out was stressful as traffic is only one way and so tight. At one point I had to move my car (from its parking spot) so the person across from me could get out. They’d benefit from the most basic maintenance to rooms and assigned parking at a minimum.

This hotel was a perfect little gem of a place to stay at while in the OBX. It was in a great area/location, STEPS from the beach and a pier. The hotel is older, but our room was clean, cool, and quiet. There is a pool but with the ocean being STEPS away, we spent most of our time there. I would definitely come back and stay again, even request the same room!

You get a lot for a very reasonable price. The apartment we had featured a full over/stove and fridge. The location is right on the beach. Would it use some touch ups ? Sure.....its an older building. But, you can see where they have worked to bring in updates. Thiz is npt a luxury resort. A motel to check all the boxes. The bed was comfortable. The shower was hot.We had real meals home cooked. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend for anyone with pets especially. It was never even a question about our puppy. We were very impressed by this motel despite its age and minor flaws it was a perfect fit for our family and budget.

I will start by saying that the staff upfront were friendly. We chose to stay here just because the place we normally stay did not have any rooms available. We opted for one of the split rooms they had available. When we arrived the first problem we ran into was parking, this place has a very tight parking lot and little options available especially if you are driving a pickup truck. The room was not at all in good shape and had several issues and looked like it had flooded at some point and was just patched back together, the room felt very damp. The room was also not very clean, there was dust everywhere and you could tell someone hadn't done a very good job. The gas stove in the room had food all under the cook top and the burners were loose it seemed so unsafe we opted against using it altogether. The air conditioning unit in one of our rooms did not work and the room stayed hot during our visit. The last thing is we went with our kids both of them are younger. The door has no safety from the inside even when the deadbolt is turned it opens right up. It would be nice to see an additional mechanical deadbolt or chain to keep the kiddos inside and safe. I will post photos of the room. Again this particular room looks to have had some flood damage, it could be nice if they spent some money on a solid renovation.

This place is amazing. A quick trip up the stairs and you're on the beach. A beautiful pier right beside you. The rooms were clean, they leave towels several times a day. Quiet, roomy, and minutes from anything you'd want to shop or eat. Highly recommend it.

Don’t stay here. The hotel appears to have new ownership/management and truly needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Simply a. Disaster . We rented , for two nights, a two bedroom unit. Terribly old and worn out. The bathroom was truly disgusting. Should have left when we pulled into the parking lot as the exterior is in bad need of painting. We made it thru night one…. Cockroaches are a huge reality…. Our fishing charter was cancelled due to wind so we left at 6 am to return home thus not staying two nights… the hotel would not refund our 2nd nite. Old, needs major renovation, even had the nerve to leave note in “ kitchen “ about penalty fees if left dirty… the whole room needs to be torn down. Do not stay here!

Great little older hotel but with some charm. From the moment we checked in with a friendly and helpful guy. Took the time to tell me how everything worked. Parking is a little tight. Those big vehicles people have dont leave much room to get in and out of your cars. Room was good and kept the air very nice cool. Out back with a great view of the ocean and area. Beds comfortable and good shower. Will stay there again. Pet friendly even though we didnt have our dogs.

This is a charming, old timey motel, not a huge corporate modern vacationplex. The paint is old, it's a little musty. It's an old building directly behind a sand dune, that's probably survived dozens of storms. It's not luxurious but totally adequate for a seaside vacation! They do their best to keep it clean despite the age and wear and tear on the building. You can't beat an oceanfront room for $100 a night! I had a room with a screen so I got to experience ocean breezes while I slept. Anyone complaining needs to spend more for a newer, fancier place. They are also dog friendly for a fee. They provide plenty of towels and the front desk staff are very kind. Bars/restaurants are in walking distance.

We really were pleasantly surprised at how quaint and clean our room was. It had charming characteristics of its age (I think 1947?), and gave cozy vibes. The decorative towels left for us on each bed was a nice touch. The kiosk check in was quick and smooth. I was in and out of the office in 5 minutes with room key cards and car pass. We spent a lot of time at the beach & exploring the outer banks each day and returned to a fresh bag of nice clean towels outside the door each afternoon. You won’t be able to see the ocean from most rooms (including ours, but a short walk through the ocean-front part of the building and you will find that the view is incredible. The building is steps from the sand and ocean. Note- the dunes at the outer banks are different than other places we’ve stayed and it’s a fairly steep walk back to the motel from the ocean but it’s a pretty short walk and the small motel and first floor room is something that I really like. Also, the parking lot is small, no doubt, but it is appropriate for its age & would be about impossible to be made any larger.l. I drive an excursion so the parking was tight but manageable. The location was worth any tight squeezes getting in and out of the parking lot. And other patrons were friendly and offered my son great advice on fishing. We loved being next to Nag’s Head fishing pier and enjoyed the food/wings offered there also. My son and I made great memories at Nag’s Head & will hopefully be back to enjoy another stay at Colonial Inn. Keep in mind the era of this charming little motel and you won’t be disappointed! It was a bargain, especially considering it is beach front!

The owner was so sweet and kind. He made sure our 3rd party site was a smooth experience, and I would recommend staying here pet friendly and kid friendly too. Ocean front without costing a arm and a leg.
